New building nears finish

September 22, 2026

4YP’s new premises on Ipswich Waterfront is having its final touches this week, in readiness for opening to young people on Monday 28th September.

Work on Unit 6 began in May 2026, with Gill Associates providing project management and Bury St Edmunds-based Seamans Building appointed as the main building contractor.

The large ground floor has been imaginatively reconfigured to create distinct areas for counselling, relaxation, socialising and activities. A calm and welcoming counselling suite incorporates four beautifully designed private counselling rooms, together with a dedicated waiting area for family members. From this quieter space at the front of the building, the hub transitions into livelier communal areas, including a café with a self-service drinks bar and a large, flexible activity space towards the rear. This area can be adapted for everything from film screenings and games (with a pool table on its way!) to group activities requiring more room.

The design also incorporates a new kitchen, craft room and cosy snug, alongside inclusive toilets and a shower, creating a versatile environment where young people can feel comfortable spending time, access support and taking part in activities.

Above, the mezzanine has been extended to provide 4YP’s administrative and staff facilities, including office and storage space, meeting rooms and a staff kitchenette.Together, the new spaces have been designed to balance privacy and tranquillity with opportunities to socialise, be creative and have fun – creating a youth hub shaped not simply for young people, but by the ideas and experiences of the young people who will use it.
